Ans: Students are evaluated on the basis of credits earned during a semester. These credits are earned for both practical and theoretical assignments. Credit rating contributes towards 'weightage' used for calculating CGPA and SGPA.

Ques:  How do you distinguish between SGPA and CGPA?

Ans: SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is an average score on a 10-point scale for every subject studied in a semester. The steps involved in calculating SGPA are: i) Course credit is multiplied by grade value for calculating total points earned during a course; ii) total points for all courses are then aggregated; iii) total credits for all courses attempted are then added; iv) total points earned is then divided by total credits for calculating SGPA.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is a summation of these credit ratings over an entire study program from first till last semesters.

Ques: What is this 10-point scale?

Ans: This 10-point scale is a grading system where A is the highest grade corresponding to 10 points and E corresponding to 0 point. The scale goes thus:

Grade    A    Grade Point    10    Outstanding
   do    A-         do           9    Excellent
do    B         do          8    Very good
   do    B-         do          7    Good
do    C         do          6    Above average
   do    C-         do          5    Average
do    D         do          4    Below average
do    E         do          0    Very poor
   do    F         do              Fail
   do    I         do            Incomplete

Students getting F or I are required to re-appear for the concerned examination. If students feel , they are at liberty to reappear for an examination for betterment of grade points earned. All grading are done through a process of continuous evaluation that includes tests, presentations, assignments, laboratory work, surprise quizzes, project work, and attendance.
