Campus Life
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management was established by MHRD as an apex institute of IT and management. The proposal for Establishment of IIITM, Gwalior was passed in October 1995 by EFC. The objectives of the institute were framed so as to create facilities for education, research, consultancy and professional development in the cusp area of IT and management through seamless integration. The institute was founded to bridge the gap between the technocrats and the managers and produce the new generation of entrepreneurs.
The Government of Madhya Pradesh allotted land free of cost, first at the village Sonjana, on 16th January 1996. The foundation Stone of the Institute was laid on Jan 17, 1996. Subsequently, the first meeting of IIITM Gwalior Society was held on 17th January 1997 at Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi. And soon, the society was registered by 30th January 1997.
The first director joined the institute in October 1998. The first course of the institute started in July 1998, PGDMIT with intake of 30 students. Subsequently PGDIT came forward in 1999 with an intake of 15, Ph.D. Programme in July 2000 and 5-Yr. Dual degree PG programme also in July 2000. Full time faculty joined in August 1999. In the starting the classes of the institute were held in Madhav Institute of Science and Technology, Gwalior. The MITS had provided nearly 15,000 sq. feet covered area in the high voltage laboratory complex of MITS without charging a monthly rent with a proviso that the permanent fixtures created shall become the property of MITS. There after the construction of the campus the classes were shifted to institute. In the starting the institute was named as Indian institute of information technology and management (IIITM) Gwalior. In December 2002 ABV was added to its name on the birthday of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, then prime minister of India.
ABV IIITM attained the Deemed University Status on 26th March2001. The BoysHostel-1 (BH-1) and Girls hostel (GH) construction was completed by 2001. The construction of BH-3 was completed by 2006 and the construction of BH-2 completed in 2008. The construction of the residences of the faculty members, Director and Administrative Block were be completed in 2007.
Since its inception the institute is creating waves, setting new benchmarks of success year after year. Due to its active integration with the industry the institute has witnessed robust summer and final placement of students in the industry. Several prestigious companies have been visiting institute year after year. The students have shown great skills and have achieved success in several national level competitions; several students have shown phenomenal success in ACM programming contest. Alongside, the institute has given birth to several entrepreneurs. CEON Solutions and Kconnector are examples of the exemplary skills possessed by the students of IIITM.
Even though the institute is quite young it has witnessed huge success in all spheres of IT and management. The institute has recently launched an open software club too. Besides, this the institute has organised several national level conferences. The institute is making a mark in all areas and is making its present felt through the sincere efforts of its faculty and students.
